Samsung filed a DMCA complaint to have footage taken down from YouTube because the mod turned the phone into a grenade Want to experience the explosive power of the Galaxy Note 7, but don't want to lose any digits? Then you should check out this mod. It’s no surprise the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has hit a huge snag given how many reports there have been of devices suddenly exploding. Which is why the phone’s inclusion in Grand Theft Auto 5 seems fitting given its explosive properties. GTA5-Mods user HitmanNiko created a mod for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto 5 that replaces its Sticky Bomb weapon with a Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Since it has the same properties as the Sticky Bomb, players are able to attach it to vehicles, buildings, and anything else its sticky surface can adhere to. HitmanNiko did a nice job of creating the Galaxy Note 7 within Grand Theft Auto 5 as its screen, body, logos, and even its default wallpaper can be seen when the player holds it. Even though it looks like a Galaxy Note 7, we think its destructive capabilities may have been exaggerated for this mod. Unfortunately, we don’t have a phone on hand, so we can’t tell you for sure. And if we did, we probably would be keeping it as far away from us as possible.
GTA 5 Mod Showcasing the explosive Samsung Galaxy Note 7! Yes it's here ladies and gentlemen, seeing as the new flagship Samsung phone is so explosive and wa
If there are two things that are certainties in this life, it’s the fact that everyone loves watching a giant fall, and people are always going to create mods for Grand Theft Auto games. It’s not always the case that the two manage to find a way to intersect, but sometimes the stars align just so and something magical happens. A prime example of that is the fact that someone has been able to mod Grand Theft Auto V to include Samsung’s now-infamous Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. While initially, you may think that’s great advertising for the company, it soon becomes clear that things aren’t all that rosy. Instead, the Galaxy Note 7 that is now part of the GTA 5 universe via a new mod in which it that acts as an explosive, blowing up anything in its path device, because recall. You would have to have been living on an island somewhere to have avoided the furore that Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 has caused over the last few weeks, with it catching fire, exploding and generally being far too combustible for its own good. This GTA 5 mod takes advantage of that and turns the Galaxy Note 7 into a real, no-nonsense weapon. In the world of GTA 5, nothing explodes quite like a high-end Samsung flagship smartphone! Samsung has had a bad few weeks of it, and this is the latest in a long line of dings the company’s reputation has faced. Unfortunately, there was little Samsung could do to head this kind of thing off once a recall was officially announced, and that recall was inevitable once more and more Galaxy Note 7 smartphones started to explode. It’s unfortunate, and perhaps even a little mean that Samsung’s current troubles are becoming the punchlines of jokes already, but them’s the breaks. Onwards and upwards to the Galaxy Note 8, we say. Tech Posted on Oct 20, 2016 Updated on May 25, 2021, 6:16 pm CDT Samsung might know its Galaxy Note 7 devices are defective, but it doesn’t have a sense of humor about the global intrepid Grand Theft Auto V modders added the phone to the game as a bomb earlier this month, gamers flocked to YouTube to post footage of the device in gameplay. We’ve embedded one such example below, but fair warning, it might not last long: Samsung is reportedly using DMCA takedown claims to force YouTube to remove these videos, claiming copyright the Verge points out, this claim doesn’t exactly tick the boxes of a traditional DMCA takedown claim (the site calls it a “ridiculous overreach,” if we’re not mincing words), as it should fall under the fair use umbrella of parody. Indeed, at the time of this writing, the video that Techdirt originally claimed had been removed was still a live link, which could mean the video publisher successfully appealed the DMCA claim. It’s just one more in a long line of PR fails Samsung has faced this past month, from injuring children to forcing the evacuation of an airplane to attempting to stop a victim from going to the press to refusing to pay for damages caused by the devices. This latest development will no doubt blow up in Samsung execs’ faces too—that is, if the phones don’t The Verge *First Published: Oct 20, 2016, 5:59 pm CDT Monica Riese Monica Riese is the Daily Dot’s former director of production, and she previously served as the publication’s entertainment editor and assistant managing editor. Not only that, but mod makers have taken to poking fun at the entire situation by adding weaponised Galaxy Note 7 phones to the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V.

Three years into GTA 5, modders are still putting out new works. This week, we get a gag from modder HitmanNiko inspired by the serious recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. In the video,
Samsung is not happy about a Grand Theft Auto V mod that turns the literally explosive Galaxy Note 7 into an in-game bomb. The company is trying to erase videos of the mod from YouTube, abusing the DMCA in the process. The DMCA, or Digital Millennium Copyright Act, is a law that specifically relates to digital copyright infringement. Companies use the DMCA to issue takedown notices to websites like YouTube when a user has uploaded copyrighted content like films or music, however the Galaxy Note 7 mod for GTA V doesn't really infringe on the DMCA. The mod videos are also quite clearly a satirical parody of the whole exploding Galaxy Note 7 saga, which is generally protected under various laws. Samsung has only taken down a small selection of GTA V mod videos at this stage, so it's not clear if someone at Samsung has manually requested takedowns for some videos, or whether the process was automatic. In any case, it's still easy to find videos demonstrating the mod's functionality through a simple search. The GTA V mod featuring the Galaxy Note 7 is surprisingly simple: it replaces the sticky bomb with a 3D model of the Note 7, so in game characters react to the Note 7 in the same way as they would for a regular bomb. Anyone interested in some laughs can download the mod from GTA5-Mods, thanks to modder HitmanNiko. :) So, bagaimana pendapatmu mengenai hal ini? Uma das maiores "piadas" do mundo Tech e Gamer nos últimos tempos, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 sendo usando como bomba no jogo GTA 5.

However, Samsung had no basis for demanding the removal of the videos. According to Kotaku, the videos did not violate any copyrights, at least not any that were owned by Samsung. TechSpot agreed, stating, "The Galaxy Note 7 mod for GTA V doesn't really infringe on the DMCA. The mod videos are also quite clearly a satirical parody of the whole exploding Galaxy Note 7 saga, which is generally protected under various laws." At this point, several videos have been taken down. However, not all YouTubers complied to Samsung's demand, at least not without a fuss. Kotaku reported that a user "who goes by the handle sdaddy345, said he'd filed a counter-claim against Samsung, noting that the video had done great things for his fledgling YouTube channel." When sdaddy345, who runs a YouTube channel called Modded Games, received notice from YouTube that Samsung had issued a takedown notice for his video, he initiated a counter notification to Samsung through YouTube that his video did not infringe on any of its copyrights. Upon receiving the counter-notice, the company dropped their claim and allowed YouTube to reinstate the video. It appears that Samsung was only attempting to throw its weight around by bullying people who were making fun of their explosion-prone Galaxy Note 7. The company was hoping that the whole dangerous, exploding smartphone issue would just quietly go away. However, upon seeing the GTA V mod videos, the company thought it could scare the community into taking down videos. It has been dealing with a lot of bad public relations issues lately, and this was just another thorn in its side. Unfortunately, this move backfired for the electronic manufacturer. Instead of YouTube users quietly complying with its demands, at least one is fighting back, and hundreds of others have now posted videos simply because the topic is trending. Had the company left it alone, these videos would probably have flown mostly under the radar as just another GTA V mod video. However, now the videos are getting thousands of views, and it is all thanks to Samsung raising a fuss about it. To top it off, the company now looks worse for it because of these baseless DMCA threats. A brief recap of the timeline reveals that the Galaxy Note 7 has been one PR disaster after another. First, the devices began exploding and catching fire. Customers who had only owned the phones for a couple of months started posting videos of the damage to their devices. Samsung attacked this problem by launching an internal investigation into the matter. When they confirmed that at least 35 incidents were genuine, they issued a recall of the device. When the swapped phones began exploding, Samsung issued a second recall. However, since the traded phones were also hazardous, it became obvious that the company was lying when they said that the problem was a faulty battery. In fact, the company then admitted that they had never been able to replicate the issue in the lab and didn't know what was causing the problem. After the second recall of the device, the company decided to pull the plug altogether on its flagship phone and cut its losses to the tune of $ billion over the next three months. That brings it up to the present, where Samsung has demanded that YouTube users take down videos that it saw as damaging to its brand. Ironically, the frivolous DMCA takedown notices served to create more bad press for the company, which looks more damaging than a silly GTA V mod could ever have been. If Samsung spent more time developing a smartphone that does not explode and less time worrying about gamers and YouTubers making fun of it, this nightmare would eventually go away. People and the press would soon grow tired of talking about it, and everybody would move on. However, the company has been impetuous in defense of its brand. It appears that Gregory Lee, CEO of Samsung North America, needs to fire his public relations and legal teams because they have been making dumb decisions.
